Walk me through your background and why you're looking for a new role.

Candidate

I'm a backend engineer with 6 years of experience, currently at a FinTech startup where I lead the payments team. Before that, I was at a large e-commerce company working on the checkout pipeline. I'm looking for a new role because I want to work on larger-scale systems. My current company is 50 people and we handle ~1K requests/second. I'm interested in the challenges that come with 100K+ requests/second - things like distributed consensus, multi-region replication, and more sophisticated observability.

Three things: (1) Scale - I want to work on systems with meaningful traffic. (2) Growth - I want a place that invests in engineering excellence, with strong mentorship and clear career progression. (3) Impact - I want to own a meaningful slice of the product, not just implement tickets. Culture-wise, I thrive in environments with written culture - design docs, RFCs, postmortems - and where data drives decisions.
